Hazardous Waste

Items such as waste paint tins, fluorescent tubes, weedkiller, waste oil, etc., should not be disposed of along with your household waste.  Special collections are organised by Longford Co. Co.  For further information contact the Environment Section at 043-3343300.

Asbestos Removal

Householders frequently contact Longford Co. Council’s Environment Section requesting a list of certified Asbestos Removal Contractors.  Longford Co. Council does not maintain such a list but hopes that the following information will be of assistance.    Regarding asbestos removal, there are three stages and all are regulated under different systems:

  1. Authorised dismantling and packaging,
  2. Authorised transport, and,
  3. Acceptance at an authorised waste facility

Note - it is a good idea to check at the outset with your contractor if he/she will be taking responsibility for both removal and transport of asbestos wastes. You will be entitled to receive receipts from your contractor confirming authorised removal of your wastes to an authorised waste treatment facility and to inspect and verify any permits or certificates of competency he/she claims to possess.
